Bio Check Up Srl, a young and dynamic SME based in Naples, has been awarded, together with the IRCCS SDN and the consultancy of Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, a grant from Regione Campania for the development and application of innovative techniques in the early diagnosis and quantification of the pathology caused by COVID-19. The project was assessed in view of the notice for expressions of interest in research and development services for the fight against Covid-19 issued by Regione Campania in March 2020 to deal with the emergency with timely and effective solutions dictated by the spread of the pandemic within Regione Campania. The duration of the grant and its execution is six months, from June 2020 to November 2020, in which the companies involved will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and expertise in the fight against the pandemic due to COVID-19. The final title chosen for the project is the following: Very low dose chest CT protocols and artificial intelligence techniques for the early diagnosis and quantification of COVID-19 disease.
Bio Check Up Srl, proponent and coordinator of the project, takes care of receiving and sending images and diagnostic data. To pursue this aim, the company will create a hub for Regione Campania to facilitate interfacing with participating healthcare facilities.
IRCCS SDN, Diagnostic and Nuclear Research Institute, is an integrated group of clinics specialized in laboratory and imaging diagnostics as well as excellence within Regione Campania. Within the project, the IRCCS SDN develops and applies very low dose chest CT protocols and deals with the selection of cases to be sent for evaluation via the Artificial Intelligence system.
Campus Bio Medico di Roma, University and University Hospital of excellence, has made available the innovative Artificial Intelligence system acquired during the critical phases of the pandemic. The Institute, as a consultant within the project, deals with the evaluation and quantification of the cases sent, in order to help the treating physician in the early diagnosis of the COVID-19 pathology.
The ultimate goal of the project is to quickly and reliably obtain an index of pulmonary impairment and response to treatment in COVID-19 pulmonary disease. The result of the study can be used within Regione Campania to support, integrate and accelerate the diagnosis process of the COVID-19 pathology.
